Atrani is an
isolated fishing village, away from the noise and bustle of other
locations; it is also the smallest town in Italy. The distinctive
white houses whose balconies are overflowing with flowers are built on
the slopes of the surrounding mountains among the lemon orchards and
reach down to the sea; in fact the last row of houses is built right
behind the sea. The ancient church of San Salvatore de' Birecto (century
XI) stands beneath the Piazzetta, the central square that whose lovely
setting brings to mind the well known square in Capri. |
